Beseech the King

"For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people? How can I bear to see the destruction of my family?" Esther 8:6

This is what Esther cried out as she begged the king on behalf of her people. A law had been written by Haman, an enemy of the Jews, which called for all the Jews to be destroyed. Esther had convinced the king of Haman’s evil motives and the king had disposed of Haman, but the law had been sealed by the king’s ring and could not be revoked. Even though Esther would be protected from the law by her husband the king, her heart was broken for the coming annihilation of her people.   Here was one woman who was doing everything in her power to save those she cared about. Have you ever wondered what difference you, as only one person, can make? Look at the life of Esther. We should follow her example. How can we sit by and do nothing, knowing that our unsaved friends and family members are on their way to hell? Are we among those who would say, My life is full. I don’t have time to beseech the King, the Lord of All, on their behalf? Or can we shift our priorities and become more like Esther who literally put her life on the line to save her people. In Luke 9:5-10, Jesus tells us that we are to be persistent; to ask to seek to knock. 2 Peter 3:9 says that, The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. We can see that God desires all to look to Him for salvation how can we not take the time to ask Him to work in our loved ones hearts so that they will be drawn to Him?   We are to think like Paul, who wrote, I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, (Romans 9:2-3). Paul was willing to trade his relationship with Christ to bring those he cared about to salvation. Our hearts should break at the thought of others spending eternity apart from God. Do not minimize the power of one person in prayer for others. James 5:16 tells us, The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Take the time to pray for those you love, that they will not fall victim to a law of sin and death, but would be set free by the law of the Spirit of life.   For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2   Prayer… Dear Lord,   I realize that I have ignored what the future holds for those I love if they do not come to salvation through Jesus. I cry out with Esther I cannot bear to see disaster fall on those I care about. Starting today, I implore You to soften their hearts toward the grace You desire to extend to them through Your Son, Jesus.   In His Name, Amen
