Dear Horizon Family,
In Acts 20:20, we see the early Church taking on this powerful practice of meeting together “from house to house” for teaching and fellowship. I want to personally encourage you to get involved in one of our Horizon Community Groups. The purpose behind these weekly gatherings is to encourage each member of the group to grow in Christ through the study of God’s Word, prayer worship, and fellowship.
In addition, these Community Groups provide a great opportunity for you to build relationships with other believers in our church body. Our Community Groups leaders have been equipped for this ministry through training at the church and are committed to serving and ministering God’s love to you.
Community Groups also provide a place for sharing in food, fun and social activities as well as community outreach and missions projects. May God Bless you as you seek to know Him more and enjoy the fruit of fellowshipping with other believers in one of our Horizon Community Groups.
- Pastor Bob
What are Community Groups?
A Community Group is a group of people who gather together weekly, for the purpose of growing in their relationship in Christ.
Acts 2:42-47 provides the basis for Community Groups. This ministry is designed to help provide: Bible teaching, fellowship, prayer, worship, encouragement, and community outreach. The Community Group setting allows each individual to be integral part of the fellowship.
Basic Elements of a Community Group:
Worship. We worship God because He is worthy of our praise (2 Samuel 22:4) and through our worship we enter into His presence (Psalm 100:4).
Bible Study. The Bible study is an opportunity for each member to be involved as the Community Group leader facilitates a discussion of the Bible passage (Act 17:10).
Prayer. Prayer is an essential element of Community Group. Through prayer we are able to communicate with God in an intimate way. (James 5:16)
Fellowship. Fellowship means sharing close mutual relationships. As Christians, the foundation of our relationships is our common faith in Christ, and is displayed as we love each other as we have been first loved by God (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Ministry and Outreach. As a Community Group Family you will grow together in the Lord and serve together in reaching out to those around you (Ephesians 4:12).
